Latest performance update

Latest data from the turbine is that it generated 1,307 MWh from 1st Jan to the end of September this year. For the same period last year, the turbine generated 1,317 MWh.

The latest wind data published by BEIS (this is averaged across the UK) is that for the first 8 months of 2019 the average speed was 8.3 knots, compared to 8.2 knots in 2018, and 8.8 knots for their 10 year rolling mean.

So it looks like 2018 and 2019 are both low wind speed years (about 9% below average) although we don’t know what the rest of 2019 will bring.

Given the low wind speed, our turbine is generating well. If Oct – Dec this year are similar to last year, we should end up fairly close to last years 1,934 total, but let’s hope for a windy final quarter, it would be good to break the 2,000 MWh barrier.
