Local Community Fund

The sale of power produced by our renewable energy generating plant provides a regular income stream. The surplus income is used to meet the society’s social objectives to provide local benefit through our local community fund.
The amount available for this purpose depends on the performance of the plant and current energy prices. On commissioning of the Bwlchgwynt turbine in 2017 an initial lump sum of £15,000 was placed into the fund, followed by annual top-ups. We estimate that over the remaining operational lifetime this will aggregate to over £200k, i.e. c.£12,000 per annum.
How to Apply for Funding
If you live in the Meidrim area or wider west Carmarthenshire and have a proposal for a local project to benefit your community you are seeking funding for, please get in touch. We would prefer to fund projects that have some connection with the environment or climate change (because that is our mission) but the priority is for it to be something that the local community want to see happen.
Funding can be applied for either via the Meidrim Community Council or directly with us using this form.
If the annual funds available are not used up, we make donations to appropriate causes.
Here’s some of the projects that have been supported:
Meidrim Primary School were given a grant of £10,250 to create new outdoor activity areas with structures, trails and decorative fencing.

Meidrim Church received a £3,000 grant for new more efficient heaters and control box. They also improved their lighting and rewired the system.
Meidrim Community Council has received several grants towards the costs of repair and refurbishment of the local play area in the village.
Llanwinio Community Council received a small grant to go towards maintenance repairs to the local Hall.
Carmarthen Foodbank: We have provided donations totalling £10,000 to date to the Carmarthen Foodbank charity which is based at the Xcel Bowl nr Carmarthen and provides direct support for those in need at this time.
The Shelter Cymru charity has been given donations of £6,000 towards their work supporting people at risk of losing their home or in temporary accommodation as a result of their financial situation.
