Ynni Teg community share offer for Penrhiw Fach Wind Turbine now closed

The share offer for Wales’s newest community-owned wind turbine in Ceredigion has now closed and work is currently underway.

We launched the share offer in December 2025 and following a successful share offer campaign, we exceeded our target of £350,000 and raised £500,000.

The funds raised supports a grant from the Welsh Government and loan from Development Bank of Wales contribute to the construction costs – putting the project firmly in community ownership.

Why invest in community energy?

  • Democratic ownership – Every shareholder becomes a member of Ynni Teg with an equal vote in key decisions, regardless of investment size
  • Fair returns – Expected 6% interest once operational
  • Local wealth stays local – Every year, surplus income flows into our local community fund, supporting local climate action, energy efficiency projects, and community organisations across Ceredigion

Individuals and organisations can invest from £100 to £100,000. Shares can be withdrawn in line with the Society rules and, subject to performance, are expected to provide a 6% rate of interest once the blades are turning.

Project Timeline

  • Planning consent: Secured
  • Construction begins: December 2025
  • First generation: May 2026
  • Your investment starts generating returns from: July 2027

What is a share offer?

Our share offer enables anyone over the age of 16 to own part of a renewable energy project by buying shares.  Ynni Teg uses the funds raised this way to help pay for the capital cost of the project.

We pay fair interest to our member shareholders on the capital invested and surplus profits are used for community benefit. Your capital will then be repaid at an agreed later date in return for surrendering your shares back to the society.

By buying shares and becoming a member, you are helping to mitigate climate change and to build more resilient communities with less exposure to the ups and downs of global energy markets.  We particularly encourage people living locally to take up membership and shares.

Previous share offers

We’re proud to have lots of people supporting us.

Our last share offer attracted over 200 new members and we successfully raised nearly £500k for our 900kW wind turbine in Carmarthenshire.  The turbine was named Geraint Gwylt (Wild Geraint) by local people.  It prevents around 827 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year and surplus profits are added to a community fund which is being used to support local projects.   Read more on our Projects page.
