By becoming a member, you will be helping us to achieve our mission of developing a clean energy future, mitigating climate change, building stronger, more resilient communities in Wales, and spreading the benefit of ownership across society rather than in the hands of the few.
The turbine has been constructed and commissioned using a loan from Finance Wales, because the timescales imposed by the Feed in Tariff did not allow us enough time to raise the capital from shares and to achieve our commissioning deadline.
Now that the turbine is commissioned, we need to replace this loan with shares. Because the rate of interest on our loan is higher than the interest rate on shares, the more we raise in shares, the more community fund we can achieve.
The share offer launched in October 2017, and will run until we reach our target. The total we need to raise is £1,800,000 but we already have pledges for £500,000 towards this target.
You can apply for anything between £100 and £100,000 in shares. Anyone aged 16 or over can apply for shares, and as a shareholder you automatically become a member of our society, and can take part in member meetings and help to make decisions about what the Society should be doing.
As a Registered Society, decisions are made on a “one member one vote” basis so whether you have 100 shares or 100,000 shares, you have an equal voice.
As a shareholder you will receive interest on your shares. We are projecting that this will be 5% return over the lifetime of your shares (for more detail see the share offer document).
Our projections predict that the turbine will return a surplus in excess of 5%, but all profit above a 5% return to shareholders will be used for community benefit. Returns and shareholder interest could however be lower than this if any of our assumptions about future performance are wrong
As with any shares, your money is at risk and if the Society were to fail, you could lose part or all of your money. Please read our share offer document carefully.
