Carmarthenshire
Status: operational
We are installing a 575kW solar PV array next to Geraint Gwyllt, our wind turbine in Carmarthenshire. This will be operational by November 2024 with an assumed lifespan of 30 years.
The project takes advantage of spare capacity in the existing grid connection for the turbine. This type of ‘co-location’ project harnesses the complementary power generating characteristics of each technology and could be duplicated at other wind turbine sites. The surplus revenues from the sale of power will contribute to our community benefit fund and support work for the community energy sector.
We are grateful to the Welsh Government Energy Service in helping determine the viability of this co-generation scheme and securing the construction finance in challenging economic circumstances, and also to Welsh Government for a substantial grant and the supporting commercial loan from the Development Bank for Wales.
